I am often going on a
horseback, and once I decided to take my wolfdog with me. She sometimes saw
horses, or cows, or goats or sheeps, but she was always on leash.
In cases,
she wasnīt, she used to hunt all of mentioned animals, but more for fun than
to hurt it or kill it. As for a lonesome wolf, all these animals are too
large for her to kill them. (I am not talking about lambs etc., of course).
Anyway, when she saw the horses, she was curious and wanted to smell it and
so .. but the horse was big so she was also affraid. Since the horses were
used to dogs, I let her to take a close look at the horse, smell it and so.
After she found out, itīs no fun with the horse, she went away on her own
business. After I mounted the horse and we (three horses, two dogs) went out
to fields, she wasnīt following because she didnīt realised I am on the
horse. ;)
I had to return for her, and call her, and then she went with us. She wasnīt
attacking the horses, wasnīt jumping at us, she went with us and had lots of
fun on a three hours long ride.
Next time she was already ok with the problem of me being on a horse, she
was the only dog acompanying the horses. This appeared to be more
problematic, because she had no other dog to play with, so she wanted to
play with horses - imagine typical manner of a dog asking another one to
play ;) However, when she found out there will be no games, she gave up and
followed us without problems. Third time we took with us another CSV, Apollo
Schovanka, and this wolfdog (never was with horses before) was also
following us without problems. No horse attacking, they both we just ok with
the fact they can be out with us. They just kept about 5 m distance from the
horses.
Oh, and cows. Cira saw them few times, she is able to jump into their
enclosure and hunt them, but again, she does it only for fun, and only when
the cows run away. When they turn towards her, the game is over and she runs
away.
