How to do it ? COMMANDS AND REWARDS
Author: Helena, Translation: Mirkawolf (Aug 10, 2002 - 12:34 AM)
Training In fact, it doesn't matter, which command you choose for the requested trick (excersise), but you must use it always and in the same shape. On the other side, why to discover America again, when the commands frequently used are noted in every dog exams list. So let's use right these commands.

COMMAND
can be sound or gesture (very often are used both at the same time).
Both the sound and gesture are a symbol for the dog, so it is necessary to give them clearly, expressively and enough loudly (no need to yell, the dog can hear very well) and in constant shape (don't change the command like: "Sit down!", "Sit here", "Sit" etc.).
If the command has to be clear to the dog, you must make sure that the command doesn't disappear in a bunch of other words, which usually people tell to their dogs ("Azor, I tell you come here, so listen to me and don't be lazy. Do it fast!").

REWARD

means for the dog something, what he likes, what he is looking forward and what satisfies his needs.
The reward is usually a toy or food.
A reward should be also a word blessing or clap on the back. The blessing and caressing is often underestimated and forgotten by dog owners, which is a big fault. It is a way of reward, which we have with us all the time and it improves the relationship between owner and his dog.
If the reward has to be interesting for the dog, he must yearn for it. That means, that the dog must be hungry enough before the training, or the toy must be interesting for the dog (if it has to be interesting, it must be little bit rare for the dog; if its a toy which lays 24 hours in the dogs kennel, then it is nothing special for the dog).
But, at pleasing the dog by voice and caressing, don't be short. At least not with CsW's. Thanks to wolf ancestors, dogs who are not every day in close contact with owner, turns to be very independent or even closed and they do not long for owners attention too much. But wolfdogs, who have often physical contact, they love all the caressing and scratching and cuddling and they often request this action. So teach your dogs to be cuddled (most of CsW's is not looking forward to it, but later, when they see how good it is ... !) and talk to them a lot. Czechoslovakian wolfdog can recognise your mood maybe even more than other breeds just from the intonation of your voice. And every good dog reacts happily for happy mood of his owner. And that's the principe and goal of reward by blessing.
