If you managed to create a quality contact with your puppy, there should be
no problem to improve the dog´s comming on your call.
All practices begin from basic position
As the command we use the name of the dog (it should know it's name well) and
the command "come here!". The dog should come fast the shortest way,
and sit in front of you. Of course, this is how it should look in the final,
how it is requested on the tests. Always remember, that your goal is to make
the dog to come as fast as it can, and happily. So do not request from the beginning
the dog to sit in front of you. Also, you do not have to stand on one place,
but on the contrary, you can motivate your dog to come faster if you go away
from him (at the extremely calm individual do not feel bad to run away, or to
hide in front of them). Show the dog some toy or reward, and give it to him
immediately when it comes. If it is possible, the dog should be freed again
after coming. Unless it can remember that "if they call me and I come,
I will be leashed". This leads to chance, that dog would learn to come
on the distance of one or two metres, so that you can't put him on the leash.
If it is necessary to put the puppy on the leash, take the dog for the collar
always under his neck, so that your hand is opened up, as if you offer something.
To jump at the dog from up and catch him for the collar behind neck is for most
of the dogs very unpleasant, because it feels like attack.
If your dog doesn't want to come, do not yell on him another commands, but try
to get his attention and go away again.
Never punish your dog for the fact, that it didn't come or didn't run fast
enough !!! On the contrary, even if the dog comes on your tenth command,
you have to reward him. Sometimes it is better to think first, if it has some
sense to call the dog in some special moment (and waste the commands). Here
you have to use your predictivity and either do not put the dog off leash on
the critical places, or to call him back before he stops to pay you attention.
In some situation is even the best, to go to pick the do g up calmly (truly
you have to be calm and without emotions). And you can't to run after the puppy,
you truly have to go calmly! Here again you have to remember, that you can't
punish the dog, either it's going to keep distance from you to run away, and
then you will see, how much from wolf is in your dog.
Try to surprise your young dog with something, to show him something what is
interesting for him. To wake up dog's curiosity (which makes your dog to come
to you) it is possible to use absolutely everything. Strange sounds, running
away, hiding are only some of them, you can also climb the trees or simply lay
on the ground (this works truly well!). You have to become for your dog a master,
for which they have to be afraid, because then always you will be successful
with the trick to run away you're your dog, and it will follow you even in the
worst complicated situations.
