It can happen, that you made some mistake somewhere, or you simply have such
individual dog, for which the tricks written in the last article aren't working.
Then you have to use the long leash. It's necessary to remind, that to work
with this leash requires 100% consequency and endurance, because to fix some
problem or bad habit doesn't require few weeks, but more likely few months (
it can be even one year) and to break the correct way can only prolong this
time.
Usually it is used about 10 m long leash. It can be longer, but it will only
more likely get knot. It is important for the leash to be firm, but not too
heavy. If you use the classic tracking leash, be aware not to get cut from it
if it runs through your hands.
Once you leave your dog somewhere to run free, it has always to be on the long
leash. The dog drags the leash behind it and you touch it only in the moment,
when you call the dog back. First you call the dog by name, you give the command
"come here" and then you jerk the leash towards you. If the dog only
shortly runs forward, but doesn't come to you, do this all once again. Again,
use to go away from the dog to speed up the process and to lead the dog correctly.
Once the dog runs towards you, you praise him and motivate him to come.
If your crazy dog :o) runs around without control, then you have to catch the
right occasion and when he runs around you, to give the command (it must always
go before the jerk of the leash!), then you fastly step on the leash and after
the dog slows down, you take it into your hands and finish the trick. Of course,
the whole trick must end with praise and reward.
Besides this, the whole training is the same like when the dog is off leash.
Once the dog arrives regularly, you can start to shorten the leash slowly, when
at the last moment, there is for example only 20 cm of leash hanging on the
collar. If the dog stops to come after shortening the leash, you have to return
to the length before and start the whole process again.

After command "come here !" the dog arrives (the leash must
be always free).
