Meaning of Titles

Whenever I'm looking around at dogs, I'm obviously looking at titles. However, I know next to nothing about working/sport titles from other countries, so I was wondering if there was a list of what the abbreviations meant, and if there were explanations anywhere on what the dog has to do to earn the different titles? I mean, call me a Stupid American, but all I really know are AKC & Schutzhund titles. I don't even really know what you need for IPO! Thanks a bunch!

I did ask this two years ago to, and I still do not know even 50% of them

But if you add the ones you want to know about , maybe we can try to answer them one by one :)

Best regards / Mikael

One of my older sites has a partial list.

Prefixes:
http://doteclub.com/prefix.php

Suffixes:
http://doteclub.com/suffix.php

I'm glad this was mentioned, too, I think I'll put it up on some of my newer sites. :)

I think 99% of the ones are are AKC titles, I wanted to do all titles but that site got put on the back burner. :(

haha  Well I'll just ask here as I find ones I don't know, then! I went back to the titles on the dog I happened to be looking at which spurred the question:

ZM, ZOP, BH, FH1, FH2, ZPU1, ZPU2, ZPS1, ZPS2, IPO-FH, ZVV1, ZVV2, IPO1, IPO2, IPO3

I can assume things that are numbered are the same test, but I don't know what they are! Is that BH the first Schutzhund test? Everything else I don't know. :)

(the dog is Hero Od Uhoste, by the way! :love)

Edit: Found some more! :)

OB0, OB1, VZ1, VZ2, ZZO, ZVP1, ZVP2, SVP1, SVP2, SVP3, PT, PTT1, TAN, CAL2, FPR1, CSAU

About SVP 1,2,3...

SVP 1 is a 40km run
SVP 2 is a 70km run
SVP 3 is a 100km run and the original Vlcak test distance, as I understand.

About VZP 1,2,3...

Quote:

Both exams are the same but recognised in different countries. ZVP is the Czech exam and SVP is the Slovak exam. Unfortunately if you did for example ZVP1 you can't go for SVP2 and other way. You have to do SVP1 then SVP2 and SVP3, the same with ZVP. They are identical but as far as I know only Slovak SVP is recognised for Interchampion title. / Przemek
The dog run beside a bike, and must have a average speed of at least 12km/h on the total run.

( I think all of the above is correct ) otherwise some one please correct me ;-)

The VZ 1,2 3...

Quote:

VZ exam is standard endurance exam of profesional rescue teams. By SVP can running with dog everyone, by VZ only owner of dog, who with dog working as well. SVP is only runing exam and owner on bicycle. By VZ2 just 10 km bicycle and 10 km run for owner, by VZ3 10 km run and 1 km swimming. VZ exams testing not only dog, but the dog owner es well. / Pavel

Thanks Mikael! :) I'll have to bookmark this page, I'm never going to remember all these! haha

So, now I'm confused... IPO and Schutzhund aren't the same thing, are they? :ehmmm

Hanka 02-04-2010 06:31

Hi Mikael. I try copy here list of exams, there are czech exams too, ZVV 1-3. But it is only in czech language. I hope people can use translator, because my english is not goof for explaining of parts of exams.
Yes, Hero od Úhoště has 16 exams, it is most succesfull wolfdog (in training) in history of breed. He is champion too, but show titles are not important for me ;).

Good question  I’m not really the right one to ask, as I do not train neither, but I think it is the same thing, but there is different roles is competition / judgement :? ???

Anyway... Schutzhund is German and means Protection-dog  But in US you call it Schutzhund anyway 8)

IPO is the FCI international competition form of the German Schutzhund as I understand, but as I did say I´m not really the right one to ask if you want to know the exact difference of them both

Very best regards / Mikael

Thanks for these! I didn't realize how similar a lot of the tests are to Schutzhund, it's good to know! I'm going to have to take all of these now and make myself some sort of key for when I'm looking at dogs, all the titles are so close in their abbreviations that I'm going to have a hard time keeping them straight. ;)

So, one more question, what is it the abbreviations actually stand for? I know none of them will be in English, but it might help me remember them. :)

(as a side note, now more than ever, I'm really mad at my mother for not teaching me Polish growing up!)

I think I'll start creating a (more) full list (like what I linked above) on another site.

I know this is an old thread, but do you think one day the database may be able to have the titles be linked to a definition?

I also can't figure out the title "TPM-s".
