May I offer some technical solutions? Your dog is pacing and he adjusts his tempo to your skating tempo. I think you may have him in front of you , not much, just a little, without pulling you, yet in more comfort possition for a dog. It is your duty to be careful and not to injure your dog, so the dog should go first and you should be careful to not ride into it. You may use such equiepement (see below) to avoid giving your dog pain while pulling him accidently.

The producer, Manmat, is well known in sledge dogs society and the harness is not made for pulling but for such sports like skating, bikeing etc. Sledge harness' are longer and you may see the difference here:

Hai Maria,
Afcourse your advice is welcome.
But the problem is,I love mine live;-).
And because he can not behave hisself next to the bike:evil:.
He wears his collar:rock_3.

Because,when he see,a sheep,a cat,other dogs,birds,and so on.
The devil thake's over him:evil:,and he pulls me with him, like I'm a little feather.
Hardly to the ground:evil:.
It is even so,when he see's bunny's in the field,he jumps on his back legs, just to see where they are going.
And that for half a km:shock:.

And all that when I'm on skate's,and only a harnas???
I will pass for that:lol:.

So when he can control himself8)he get's a harnas.
And for now, I can only hope, that there come's a time, that he does not only look's like his father:roll:,but also walks next to the bike, like his father8).

Groette Martine.

maria_i_wilk 13-04-2008 15:01

On contrary, he should wear his harness to have any chance to improve!
I have very slight advantage over my husky when we bike - only my reflex and my eyes, to see quicker then the dog, what he is going to see next second (any interesting things that are important to check-out) and prevent what is going to happen with very sharp brakes.
I wrote what I wrote earlier not knowing that you have any problems while bikejouring. For beginners (such sport takes time to mastership) I'd reccomend double attachement to the dog. You may ask someone to help you. Usually 2-3 times would be enough. One leash is attached to a simple collar, and you with another leash (line) are attached to the harness - or to the bike; then centrally to the HANDLE-BAR. In any of this you may try to walk the dog giving him approval signs (any of your choice). He will learn very quickly what is proper. He is CSV, so he IS quick to learn.
Regards maria and wulfy
PS. My knees were dark navy blue after my first attempt to skate with my not pulling dog. He simply did start with no commend and me looking somwhere else. Now I have experience with teaching my nephew to bike my dog with assecuration I described above. So I think anything less is stupid for beginners

loco 14-04-2008 11:53

Hai Maria,
I must think,about it;-).
Anyway thanks for your advice8).
And yes,he is a CSW,but that also means that he is stubborn:twisted: .
