What type of car do you drive with you CsV??
Planning for a potential future with this breed and my current cars probably isn't fit to drive them around.
So what do you drive to chauffeur them around in? ;-) |
Hello and welcome to the forum:)
We drive a Japanese make pick-up truck - lots of space in the back! Whatever you go for, it needs to be covered (against the elements) but have good ventilation. Shadow now doesn't like to be inside a car because she sees the back of the truck as her 'portable den' and the front is for humans  |
we have a KIA Rio :) we have 2 csw´s on the back seat. but in the future, we would like to have Škoda Octavia combi. The best is a SUV for sure :)

Thanks for the replies, keep them coming! Definitely want to get a feel for the right vehicle:) |
Hello and yes welcome from another newbie
I have a landrover discovery and although she is ment to travel in the boot she likes to take the back seat when ever she can! |
An old disused prison van...;-)
Cheers, Michael |
I don't drive  but my boys favourite modes of transport are trains and tubes,we often get lifts in a cadilac which he hates!(Could be the leather seats) But he loves their open backed jeep :)
|
Doggie-trailer behind my pushbike. Although today I go a lift from Pec pod Sněžkou to Prague in a Skoda Fabia - 3 adults, 1 baby & 5 CSVs :)
|
I used to drive a Honda Fit, and now a Scion xD..
I would suggest that if you are planning to do things with your dog that would require leaving him/her in the car, like perhaps at a trial or show, that you get a car that has enough space in the back to fit a 500 series crate. As it goes, my Scion doesn't fit a crate, so I can't leave my CsV in the car by himself for any length of time. He helped me 'remodel' the insides of my Fit once when I did.. :) you might also look at what anchor points are available in the back. when we shopped for cars, we specifically made my car the 'dog car', (we also have a SUV but OH says dogs are off limited.. ) so it was important for me to have various anchor points in convenient areas - all my dogs ride belted in crash-tested seat harnesses that need them. |

That cage looks great! Thanks for the great feedback guys :)
and yokidomari, after I've seen you fit Ghost and the others into your xd - it looks like I don't necessarily have to look towards a SUV for the right vehicle |
As often, Mikaels postings are most interesting and informative...!

Fiat Punto classic. Have a cage in the back and use backseats for baggage in case I travel far (2100 km in 4 days, for example). For short trips (10-15 km), Frei fits in the cage together with her similarly sized friend without problems.
Before I used my father's Toyota Yaris (3 door version), good for driving short trips without any conversion, and with backseats put down (mostly for the dog's safety - I didn't want her mauled in case some big truck does not notice me in front of him) used for cca 2x1000 km trip for the mating (only me and Frei in the car). I used the shotgun seat for baggage and dog food (frozen meat) for the week-long trip. My friend has Ford Mondeo, with most of the back space turned to spacious cage, but there is enough space between the cage and back seats for quite a lot of baggage. Once we drove the whole pack of puppies (8 pcs aged cca 4 weeks) in the cage, while the back seats where down, one half of the created space turned to a space for the Frei (again very spacious) and the rest was for baggage for 2 people and the pack for 3-4 days including food for all and puppy-fence. And everyone was quite comportable ;) |

Well, my experience says Lada (for me always Zhiguli) is a car for every use. Saw one that crossed two-thirds of the long axis of Baikal, on the Baikal, when it was frozen of course. The newer models (like the one Pato had) had also quite good power, not so bad consumption, and apart from the terrible looks and turning radius (shirokaya strana rodnaya) approaching that of MIG at Mach-1  quite fun to drive. Although, instead of power steering it had a mini-fittness gym for the driver installed.

Ottokar started at the backseat of our BMW 5- series sedan, last year we changed to a Toyota Land Cruiser, with a boot, that could serve as a wolfdog family den, but of course Ottokar still prefers the back seat, so he can lick our ears every now 'n then.
|
Anlways a very old Ford mondeo station wagon and in the past a Lada :)
So I can transport all kind of pets and other species  But in the meantime I did become "famous" with cars with troubles and "longer stay" in all kind of CsW meetings in different countries:))) hahhaha |
