Wolfdogs in Tropical Countries

Are there wolfdogs in tropical countries? Can they adapt to its weather? Thanks.

TipTop 12-09-2010 00:16

I live in Brasil and my Wolfdog is doing very well.
U can check her photos to see her.
Her name is Apoena.

We have a VERY hot weather in summer and a not very cold winter.
Usally the weather goes around +40ยบ in summer or +5 in winter ( at night).

We live in south Florida (Fort Lauderdale) and Luna and Pongo are doing pretty well. They don't like the heat but Luna still loved to work, even when it's hot out (just be sure to keep them hydrated and limit the exposure to high temps).

Tiptop/Draggar,

Even in Israel are CsW's living without problems ;)
See for example these pics http://www.wolfdog.org/eng/articles/1285.html

Two of my pups are living in Espirito Santo, a tropical place with no winter at all, and both dogs are better adaptated to the climate than any other breed created for generations in that place, better even than brazilian breeds itself. :)
You can see some photos of them searching for Angeal and Aerith in the database.
(Their color changed a lot, looking like the sand color of that place, seems that similar thing happened with the CzW in Izrael)

Mijke and Nebulosa,

Thank you so much for your share of information. All of you guys have been very helpful. I am originally from the Philippines and we only have two seasons there, the dry season which is summer and the wet season which is the rainy season. Temperature, I think, ranges from 62F to 92F. God bless All.

Can a wolfdog "handle" heavy rains (re: typhoons)? Anyone experienced working they CZ wolfdogs under heavy rains? I know they can handle SNOW. :?. Thanks for all the inputs guys. God bless you all.

draggar 20-09-2010 20:03

I hope that in the case of a typhoon the dog wouldn't be outside! :)

As for walking in heavy rains, Luna likes it about as much as we enjoy being in the pouring rain (not much) but she loves to run, splash, and pee in the puddles.

Oh yes, definitely. Its just that during rainy season in my home country, the weather is unpredictable. Sometimes I do train dogs under the rain just to habituate them. I also train at night, because I believed that most "bad incidents" SELDOM happen during daytime or if the weather is clear/good. :p.

Well, it's not a simple question like yes or not because it will variate according the personality of the dog. But if you're in a situation that you really need your dog to work and he is well trained and socialized to do what you need, he will independant of the weather conditions, already if he will like to work in such conditions or not, there is where enter the "personal taste" of the dog.
I have here two very different dogs in such conditions, Oskar wich LOVES rain, strong wind and terrible weather conditions, and Iran wich act like if he was made of sugar.. if rains he nor even wants go out for a pee.

But.. I strongly wish that you will never need to work with your dog in the middle of a typhoon :p

Oh yes, its just occassional. As I have said, its just to "habituate" them in situations like that. Thanks for the advice.

Hi, Can you tell me which dogs live in Israel?
It could be found through a wolfdog.org?
I ask because the owners of a puppy from my kennel moved there,
and I have no idea how much wolfdogs are there.
