About x-ray results, DNA tests and publication in several countries
In the past is was not common to make x-rays for HD and publish the HD results.
I know from old breeders that in the past there were a lot of fights when breeding clubs did decide it was obligated to make HD x-rays before breeding.
Especial when a club did decide to publish the results!
Nowadays it is common to test HD for breeding and in Holland breeding clubs has to publish the results.
During the years more and more was know about diseases in a breed. And more tests were developed (for example ED x-rays, EVCO eye research, Deafness).
The last years also more and more DNA tests were developed for specific genetic diseases in specific breeds.
And we can expect (and hope!) that after research more test will be available for diseases (like cancer, epilepsy)for several breeds.
And I think it will only be a matter of time before it is also common to make genetic DNA tests and to publish results like now for HD
With this topic I hope to make a start with an inventory about what is done and asked by a breed club and kennel organization in several countries on this moment.
Dutch situation:
Dutch CsW club: x-ray results and DNA Tests rules
Before breeding it is obligated to make
HD x-raysThese combinations are allowed:
HD A/- x HD A/-
HDA/- x HD B/TC
HD B/TC x HDB/TC
HDC/± x HD A/-
Only such combinations can get advertisement of the club
(and of course they have also to fulfill all the other Dutch breeding rules)
ED x-rays are advised, but are not yet in the official breeding rules
EVCO eye test is advised, but is not yet in the official breeding rules
The Dutch club advises also all owners to test for
DM and Dwarfism.
Especial breeders are advised to test before breeding. (it is not obligated, but most of the breeders do)
There are yet no rules for making combinations (although nobody will make combination carrier x carrier for dwarfism!)
On the Dutch champion Clubmatch of the CsW club, they offer all members to collect blood for free for DNA tests and DNA storage.
When owners later on send a copy of these test results, they receive discount for the test price of the club.
The club is publishing on their clubsite:
HD x-rays, EVCO eye results, DM results, Dwarfism results
Dutch kennel club Raad van Beheer (RVBH) and tests
(RVBH is the national breeding organization who is responsible for pedigrees)
The RBVH is also screening and coordinating the research (tests) of
HD, ED, Eye (EVCO) and Deafness.
All these results are send to the breed clubs.
The Dutch kennel organization (Raad van Beheer) is now also preparing national DNA test days for several breeds.
Test results and publication
On this moment all Dutch results of
HD, ED, Eye, and Deafness are public in Holland.
A breed club is obligated by RVBH to inform members (and no members!) when they ask for these results.
When a breed club refuses, the RBVH will publish these results on their site.
(like they do now for one of the clubs of the Saarloos breed Click
