Also I have DNA tested the breeding dogs of my own.
But when I use a male of an other breeder, the male is not always DNA tested .

I hope in future DNA will be obligated for all breeding dogs!!

And not only for to be sure who are the real parents
But in future more and more genetic problems can be investigated. And then it is wonderful when genetic experts can use genetic material of a whole population of a breed.

And there are more positive things about DNA tests.
For example in the past Margo did add a topic about laboratory who did ask for blood for epileptic investigation.
But... when a laboratory has discover a good test, also people who did offer blood of their dog, has to pay a lot for such tests.

But when a lot of dogs in the same breed population are DNA tested then there are also more possibility’s. Then genetic experts can offer DNA samples of this population to laboratory for special investigation (for genetic problems in a breed) under conditions. For example when laboratory have discover/made a test for a specific problem; it is free for all owners who did cooperate.

I know Dutch genetic specialists who are interested in saarloos breed, but they are also very interested in the CsW.
But unfortunately we have only a wolfdog data base but not yet a DNA database!

greetings,
mijke

Hello Mijke,

I'm willing to donate DNA-samples of my dogs... But I only have 2 wolfdogs, so I guess that's not enough to start a DNA-database But I'm sure that a lot of people will try to help, if there comes such a research or such a database... So maybe you can ask that genetic specialist if he's really interested to set up such projects. I think that many wolfdog-owners and breeders will help!

You told that your own dogs are DNA-tested... What includes such a test? Did they set up their whole genome-chart, or is it just a kind of marker-test for genetic diseases?
Very interesting...

Greetings,

Liesbeth
