2e Update Dwarfism - Februari 2009

In the topics http://www.wolfdog.org/forum/showthread.php?t=9042 and http://www.wolfdog.org/forum/showthread.php?t=9792 I did write about the dwarfism test for SWH that needs to be validate for CsW breed before we can use it.

http://www.de-ursidae-stee.com/wolfd...werg%20pup.jpg
SWH dwarf pup

In the meantime I did receive several mails of people who were thinking that maybe they did have a dwarf in the past. But these dwarfs or parents did not live anymore.

And the only really proven thing we have is that: Dagaz Dille van de Kilstroom and Chrop z Kladenské záre CS did get the dwarf Xenator Arni de Louba Tar. So Dagaz en Chrop are carriers of the gen mutation and maybe one of their offspring is also carrier of this gen.
And that is why I did add all the names of their offspring in the last update.

A very cooperative breeder did read this list and did realise he has a female of one of this offspring. He did write honest that he did have very small litters with dead born (and very small) pups. And he did want to help to validate the test.
But it was not sure if this female really did get a dwarf puppy.
But because this female was an offspring of Chrop, the university did take the risk to make the (expensive) test for free for this breeder. And two weeks ago we did receive the test results.
Unfortunately it was not possible to validate the dwarfism test, because this female was not carrier of the gen mutation…

But this result don’t say anything, because we were not really sure this female did get a dwarf.
The university still thinks that the mutated gen in CsW breed will be the same as in SWH and GSD breed. But they only can be sure (if it is the same mutation or an other) if we can test a proven carrier of the gen! (= a really dwarf or his parents)

The breeder of the dwarf (ms Keizer) did tell me that the dwarf and Chrop did die and that Dagaz was replaced in Luxemburg. In September she did tell she wants to cooperate for the validation of the test. But till now we did not receive any blood of Dagaz Dille van de Kilstroom!:zweifel

And till to day our only chance to validate the test is to receive EDTA blood of Dagaz Dille van de Kilstroom!!
But unfortunately I don't have any info of the owners, the only thing I know that she is living in Luxemburg.

So I ask you all now for help!.

* Does anyone of you know the contact info of the owners of Dagaz Dille of the Kilstroom?

* Can anyone of you translate this topic in German or French?

* And please is there anyone who is willing to translate this topic: http://www.wolfdog.org/forum/showthread.php?t=9792 in French or German?

Then we also can add this topics about dwarfism on other language sites.
And maybe someone in those countries knows more :)

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have a not very important question - did the university do only test for the known genetic marker only, or did they do also some other test for dwarfism (like hormone level or something) to rule it out completely?

Unfortunately, I cannot help you in any way, as I don't speak French or German (OK, I do, but terribly) and don't know the person. And my pups were few, but big and growing fast...

They did only make the test to find the DNA marker for dwarfism.

When they can test blood of a proven carrier of this gen mutation, then they only can say if it is the same mutated gen or not.
(Hypophysis tests aso are only interesting to do on a dwarf himself.)

Ah, for some reason I thought not the bitch but the pups were tested... Of course in carrier the physiological / biochemical screens for dwarfism would be negative...

I did translate this topic for the German forum but I don´t think I will have the time before Wednesday to do the whole threat. And my French is not worth talking about.

does anyone have photo of little ARNIE? I am sad that he is reported dead, as the little guy was my best friend for long time, he was ill as puppy and he used to sleep on my bed with me so i could care for him, he played a lot and was real character, as pup he looked in perfect shape and size but then started to fall behind in growth, but remember he was ill at this time, he had problem with stomach and had to have small meals and often, this could of stopped or slowed down his growth, his head was bit out of propotion as baby puppy, and he retained a very soft coat, he had no problems with his joints or cordiation, he had good hearing, definately good sense of smell, and eyes seemed normal, he played with other pups and kept up with them in stamina , i.e. he did not tire out before the others, his stomach disorder lasted for approx 6 weeks, after this he was great, i then went to Spain for 4 mths on returning Arnie was at least 44cm at shoulder, this is what i know about Arnie so was he dwarf ???? could it have been the stomach illness that affected his growth???? would a dwarf have grown to 44cm???? at 44cm he was in perfect propotion just looked like young cwd.........as for Arnie being dead ??????????? i think my friends who still visit the kennels would have told me by now,,,,
