"The extended VD view is prone to unacceptable variability. In one study, 65 large breed dogs were evaluated by OFA and three ACVR Diplomates (Specialist Veterinary Radiologists in the US). Evaluation between the two groups of scorers agreed on the diagnosis less than 50 per cent of the time. There was also significant intraobserver variation or lack of repeatability with the same radiologist.

Of the 65 dogs, 10 were considered dysplastic by the OFA, while 25 to 29 were considered dysplastic by the ACVR Diplomates. The extended VD scoring scheme has had little or no impact on reducing the gene pool with very high prevalence rates."
