Thumbs up Sport instinct

Hi all

Which sport do you think is closest to wolfdog nature?
From what I see RCI is not a good choice. They have a really good nose so maybe trailing / search and rescue?

Thanks

Absolutely trailing/search and rescue. That´s where they feal at home if you adapt the training to the dog and not the dog to the training what is often a problem with rescue organisations.

Ina

What is "endurance sports"? I'm talking about official dog sports.

It would be nice to have a list of CzW who do each kind of sport. For example, I would like to know SAR dogs.

TRAINING

Best regards / Mikael
The problem is, if you are interested in trailing and or search and rescue, there are no sport certificates for this and therefor not many dogs with certificates in this in the training section, if any.

SAR is not a 'sport' in my opinion - that's work. Things like SchH, Mondio Ring, Rally-obedience, tracking-trailing, etc can be a sport.

There are endurance sports you can title in, like the endurance section of SchH, the SVP exams, etc.

SAR like Ina said doesn't have a title, it's not a sport, but some SAR dogs I know started out titling in tracking sports to train on.

Well, two of my own dogs have exams (not titles) in trailing and some more dogs out of our kennel. One out of our kennel has done an air scenting exam, one was in an avalanche squad but didn´t continue there due to privat reasons of it´s owner (the dog did very well). But only one of my own dogs and two more dogs out of our kennel have been really working till now.
That they are all out of our kennel simply belongs to the fact that there was an active group of owners that worked in this.
At the moment there are two od Uhoste dogs in my training group that do very well and as far as I know Mijke is also in rescue work and I am sure there are more, I simply don´t know them.

But I am no fan of SAR been done for sports, rescue work is something serious nothing for titels. If you are looking for something to work your dog that it likes it´s fine for me, to do it for gaining titles is from my personal point of view not the right thing. You can do trailing for fun without problems but you should also know it is extremely time consuming - and no titel in the end, just the fun of it.

Regards
Ina

Of course Michael, I didn't express well. I was assuming all SAR dogs do trailing as sport. My bad. But I'm interested in the community work, I would be very happy to contribute to something with her so I thought of SAR.
The trainer has been testing her will to all kind of sports/work... it's obvious defence and super-obedience is not her thing. She has fun doing things related to Agility and Trailing so... let's wait and see (she is still young).

In my country there's no endurance competitions (SVP).

If you ever find your way to Germany I can show you some trailers.
And if you don´t mind to travel to get an idea in October there will be another workshop with the British Police Head Advisor for Mantrail here in my area for advanced dogs where ad least three CSW will join in.
If you don´t have trailers in your area just open up a new group.

Ina (Michael isn´t into the SAR things)

In FCI we have exams for rescue dogs with certificates, competytion, National and World Championship etc. They are very difficult but some csv have first level RH-E.

In Poland only dogs with special goverment certificate can complete in rescue actions. Non csv pass it.

2400km to Germany is a bit far
Luckily I live near an experienced trainer who trains for example dogs for national army.
Do you know any good website about SAR?
